I Just Became a Christian, Now What? – New Series

In my previous local church, I was working with the staff pastor who oversaw discipleship. One of the areas I noted that needed improvement was providing new believers (saints) with information to start them on the path of their life in Christ. After upheaval at the church (see My Story of Willow), the project was delayed to focus on the crisis. So, as part of this blog, Our Life in Christ, I decided to revive this effort and write a series of articles to help new saints. Of course, I am not creating content because God’s divine power has given everything the saints need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1). God’s power comes from knowing him and by the provision of his promises. Also, the Holy Spirit is our helper and provides gifts to build up the church. Nevertheless, the areas of focus for new saints can go in many directions. So, these articles will focus on aspects of our faith that I believe will provide a foundation for new believers.

The entire Bible is useful for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:14-17, NRSV). As in the other articles in this blog, Scripture will be the primary resource to understand God’s great and magnificent promises. I may supplement the Word with writings from other teachers or provide references to books for specific topics. I hope to answer some of the basic questions new saints may have or may not even realize they have.

I pray these articles will help any saint understand their identity in Christ and the fullness of God’s power in their lives. I desire what Paul desired for the church in his letter to the Ephesians:

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:14-19, NRSV)

Would you please pray for me to be attentive to the Holy Spirit as I research and write? As the header of this blog states, I desire to help the church by exploring our relationship with God, the church, and the world.

I invite you to contact me with comments and questions you may have regarding these articles. You may use the form on the contact tab of this website. I may address your thoughts in a general way through the blog, but will not quote or identify you without your permission. Thank you.
