In Citizens of the Kingdom Part 3, I suggested that the church can and must approach contentious matters as citizens of God’s kingdom. So, to use the vernacular, I will put my money where my mouth is and discuss some of the more difficult subjects the church is dealing with today. I have been working on one such topic for the past several weeks. Actually, I have been studying it for several years for my own education.

However, I am still wrestling with what to publish after writing thousands of words. My goal is to post an article every three to four weeks. Therefore, I am writing this short note to state my intent and let you know what is coming rather than be silent for several more weeks. I also have a request.

One of the things I heard as I prepared to share my thoughts and hopefully faithfully represent God’s words is how we deal with public discourse. My paraphrase of what the person said is that we have lost the ability to debate respectfully. Instead, we have become polarizing, often resorting to discourteous and ad hominem attacks. Respect and a desire to get at the truth are essential in any discussion, especially regarding divisive subjects, and especially in the church.

So, I request that we approach one another with love and respect, seeking understanding, even if we strongly disagree. I will do my best to do the same in my articles.

I am still determining when I will publish next, but I plan to do so in the next three to four weeks. God bless you as you seek and serve Him in all you do.
